President and founder of a company incorporated in April 2008, Dr. Daniel H. Doughty provides expert and independent consulting services for a wide range of battery safety issues.  He has extensive experience in all types of lithium rechargeable batteries as well as other battery electrochemistries. 

Dr. Doughty was Sion Power's Vice President for Product Safety for over 2 years.  Prior to joining SION in December 2006, he had a 27 year career at Sandia National Laboratories, the last 14 of which he managed the Advanced Power Sources Research and Development Department.  In this capacity, he developed understanding of battery failure modes and devised strategies for improving safety and abuse tolerance of batteries from a fundamental and practical level.   

Dr. Doughty is Chair of SAE Committee that is rewriting and improving J2464 Recommend Test Procedure “Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicle Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) Safety and Abuse Testing”.  He has participated in three National Academy of Science panels from 2001-2004 focused on advanced power source technologies for the military and intelligence community. Additionally, he was lead author of National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI) Roadmap for Energy Storage Systems of portable electronics (2002-2006).
